For the past few days my clownfish has been resting on the bottom of the tank. As soon as I walk up with food though he gets right up and seems to be fine.

The only thing that I've noticed is 2 black spots near his tail. Other than that no signs of illness. I'm thinking it could be black ich but I'm not sure yet. I've also heard that clownfish can developed spots if they host a coral instead of an anemone, but I've never seen him in any corals.

Right now I'll just plan to keep an eye on him. Any other ideas?

Here's a photo. Ignore the algae

I'll try to get a closer pic as soon as I can.

I've had him for about 2 months. He was quarantined for 30 days. Only observation the tank was not medicated.

He's in a 3 month old nuvo 40 with another clown and Valentini puffer. The other fish aren't showing any problems. All parameters are good although phosphate is a little high.

Once he gets up he seems fine and eats well, but I've never seen a clownfish just sit on the sandbed like that.

If he was in QT for 30 days, you likely can rule out the more serious diseases such as velvet, brook, etc.

But the black spots could be black ich (it's actually a worm - not a parasite) or perhaps just a coral sting. Get a closeup pic when you can.

Sorry, I forgot to post a picture and he seemed to be doing better last week. He's stayed off the bottom until this morning. Heres some better photos
