I currently have a new 120g tank that's been set up for over a month (rocks were cycling for three months prior). The tank is currently housing 4 ORA aquacultured clowns, divided into two pairs and separated by egg crate to curb mild aggression issues. Both sets of clowns were passively QT'd prior to being moved the to DT. They did receive rounds of API General Cure, but otherwise, appeared perfectly healthy.
My dwarf clowns were originally housed in my bedroom nano tank, where they are the only inhabitants. The other Snowflake clowns went directly into the DT. However, I was going away for three weeks for surgery, and I decided to house all four clowns together (but divided) to allow automation to handle the tank while I was gone.
Right before I left, I noticed my female dwarf had a white spot. I took her out, did a freshwater and Prazi dip. It did not look like a fluke, and did not turn opaque after the dip. But the spot did go away the next day, and I added another round of API General Cure to the tank JIC. When I returned, three weeks later, she still had a couple white spots, in different places, and the little male did as well. But the other two clowns, housed in the same tank but physically separated by egg crate, look absolutely perfect.
I originally was hoping that the white spots on the Dwarf female was lympho, but the fact that it transferred to the male as well makes me think Ich. I have tried to get a picture, and can't seem to get anything that shows. The female only has 2-3 spots and the male 1-2. But the spots are the ONLY symptoms. There is no heavy breathing, no rubbing, and their appetites are like little pigs. They are not covered with fine spots, so I ruled out Velvet. I imagine that the Snowflakes either are simply asymptomatic or have the ich spots in the gills where I can't see it.
My plan is to remove the clowns, place them into my QT tank and run copper (I have both Cupramine and a copper test kit). Then the DT goes fallow for 76 days? Is 76 necessary or is there a shorter time period? I've read @Humblefish QT procedures, so I think that I'm stuck with a 76 day fallow period.
Any one have any different ideas? Suggestions? If I can get a good picture, I'll post it.
