Hello one of my two clownfish had a long white string poop today maybe 3 hours after eating. I have had them for 6 months and they are doing well. After some research, it seems like it would be some type of internal parasites but I doubt it. Their behaviour is always the same and they seem healthy and are eating well. I also saw that it could be a too heavy protein diet or a mono diet. Since I only feed New life Spectrum pellets, would that be the cause of this? Should I start feeding mysis shrimp to vary the diet? If its the parasite, what treatment would you recommend? I have corals and inverts so it has to be reef safe. Thanks for the feedback.

Fish should most definitely receive a diverse and well balanced, varied diet. Pellets are very heavy in proteins from what I understand. That's like if we ate steak 3 times a day - Don't get me wrong, it sounds nice but I sure as heck bet things wouldn't be "movin' and groovin'" in my tummy.

White string poop is very much a symptom of internal parasites - do not rule it out! The most recommended course of action for internal parasites I've read is Seachem Metroplex, mixed and bound to the food with Seachem Focus. I have treated with this and can attest that it did work for me.

This is reef safe so long as it is used together.
