I recent picked up a pair of clownfish and currently have them in QT with no medication. They are both active and eating, but I recently noticed a small bump under one's skin. Today I noticed that the bump looks like it burst and there is a second bump near the front of his dorsal fin. I have seen the healthy fish dart at the one with the bumps, but it didn't look like any nipping happened. I have also seen the one with the bumps do the twitchy submissive dance.

My best guess is Lympho, but this is the first sick fish I've had. If someone could provide a more concrete diagnosis, that would be awesome. Thanks!

No, that isn’t Lymphocystis. It is probably a bacterial infection. If it were just one spot I’d just say watch it, but that second one indicates it is systemic and spreading. Do you have any medications handy? If not, you should consider getting a broad spectrum gram negative antibiotic like Neoplex.
Do you have a quarantine treatment lab in mind for these fish?

I believe the upper dorsal shows another and Maracyn 2 comes to mind if you have no access to other meds. Melafix MAY help a little but its not a medication

Thanks for the responses and sorry for the slow update! I started neoplex earlier this week. Since then the first spot looks like it has started to heal a little. The bump near the top opened up just like the first one. It looks pretty bad on the picture, but it's actually better than it was. Sorry I didn't get a picture right after it opened up. I can't see any other bumps under the skin currently. Also, his behavior has not declined at all. He still eats and is just as active as any clown I've seen. They've both started greeting me and begging for food.

Jay, to answer your other question, so far I've just been using quarantine for a month of observation before going into the DT. This was the first time I've had an illness so neoplex is currently the only medication I have. I do have a well stocked lfs about 5 minutes from my house though. The store I usually get fish from has their new arrivals go through a dip and copper treatment. That being said, I know it would probably be a good idea for me to have my own treatment plan while they're in QT. I will do some more reading before getting my next fish.

Thanks again for your help guys and I will try to keep this updated on any changes.

Yeah - it show looks like it got worse, glad to hear it might be healing. Looks like something is going on with its anal fin? A notch or something?

What about treating them with copper while they are in quarantine? Observational quarantine only goes so far....
