Clownfish

I just bought 2 small clownfish and purchased the suggested flakes to feed them. However, the flakes float on top of the water but the new kiddos are staying at the bottom of the tank which is a 40 gallon tank. These are my first fish in my saltwater tank. Any suggestions on how to get the food to the fish or the fish up to the food?
Flakes are fine the best way is just to wiggle your fingers in the water and release the flakes they will get pushed all over for sure.

its funny that you say that, i picked up 2 clowns from petco recently when i stopped in to browse and i was really surprised at how well all their fish seemed to be doing and the one employee in charge of the fish actually seemed pretty knowledgeable about it. Maybe they are stepping their game up. I always remember their fish looking very sad and unhealthy before.
Yes there's plenty of good petcos out there,They get a bad rap but you can get some good stuff there,Just gotta find the ones with employees that have the knowledge and care

Ok. Thank you.

Would it be ok to buy any of these items you suggested at Petco? They sell Saltwater fish and food. And how much would I feed these two little clowns? They are probably at the most 1" inch in size.
My clowns have always loved new life spectrum pellets,Kinda pricey as far as food goes like $14.99 a bottle in my area but it last a long time. One of the best dry foods out there

My experience - I started my first saltwater tank a little over two months ago, and introduced two clown fish + 1 Sailfin Molly about 6 weeks back. And I have been feeding them flake food all along. Yes, the clowns were near the bottom in the first week. Guess they felt safer there. Then they took shelter behind the powerhead and sometimes next to the heater. Basically wherever there was minimum flow. And then they started going all over the tank (40 G breeder tank). I lost one clownfish along the way. My LFS concluded I had slightly high ammonia which one clownfish was able to withstand, but the other couldnt. I also noticed that if I powder the flake then it is much easier for the clownfish to take. They were very young and had a very small mouth. They couldnt bite off a larger sized flake. Other than this, I dont see any issue. They sense it as soon as I introduce the food in the tank.

They are the ones who told me to get the flakes I bought. But like I said, the flakes float at the top of the water and the fish are hanging out low in a corner. ???
In my experience the clowns will get more active around the tank when you add another fish,Mine always started off in the corner as well lol but when they see a new fish swimming around the tank they seem to get curious and start exploring to

this post changed the way i feed fish. especially since i dont quarantine.

LRS nano reef, live white worms twice a week, and mysis shrimp with selcon is my favorite way to feed.

but thats just me and i dont have decades of experience like many others do

While they eat flakes, not an ideal diet
Feed frozen food such as;
Spirulina brine shrimp
Hikari marine cuisine
LRS fish frenzy
Small plankton
Formula 1 frozen and pellet
+1 to Reef Frenzy

Clowns, Midas Blenny Scooter Blenny and Corals Love it! Only need a nickel sized piece dissolved in Saltwater

Pro Tip, add a few shavings of Brine Shrimp to mixture, feed once a day.

I swear by LRS reef frenzy I have 4 clowns and 1 blue spotted puffer and they all go absolutely bananas for it, also if you plan to add corals/inverts they love it, it’s also a super clean food specially if you feed pinky nail sized portions
Absolutely!!

Anemones need very stable water. Its recommended a tank be running for at LEAST a year before an anemone can be added. Unless very experienced I wouldnt add an anemone any time soon. They are very sensitive to changes and parameter swings. A 40 gallon tank might also be a little small if you plan on adding corals too. The anemone will sting them and depending on the species anemones can grow pretty big
Ok. Thank you for the information.
