I've noticed over the past week that my female B&W Oc Clown's mouth appears to stay open all the time. I've fed her several times and she appears to be hungry, can capture food but spits it out often. Nothing has changed with the tank other than a little cyano issue I'm vacuuming out regularly. She is really attached to my hammer coral and has a mate that seems happy. Just wondering if you all have ever heard of this? I'll post pictures later.

i had my female do this about a year ago when they started hanging out in my hammer coral. do a little research on it. it took mine a little over a week to recover but from what i read, she wasnt getting along with the hammer as good as she thought she was.... there bodys can resist a sting, but their mouths are sensitive. my experience anyways.. others have different opinions

I figured it was the hammer just stinging her abit... She loves that darn thing and beats on it regularly...Guess it just decided to get back at her :)

also be careful, my clowns now host a frogspawn, but if they beat up on it to much, it could damage/kill it....

Yep I agree with Jay also . In my daughters tank , my gold stripe hangs out in
My hammer. And every once in a while she will go to far.
And it stings her mouth. But she recovers after about a week.

I had a kole tang that did this at one time, and it was a bacterial/funus infection. It cleared up on its own.

This is probably better than Chuck's experience with fish mouths!

i just super glued my yellow tangs mouth shut - Reef Central Online CommunityD

I'm guilty of that too. Had a drop of glue get away from me and my purple tang bit it. Fortunately he rubbed it off

That sounds awful. I had one of my clowns get into the overflow area of my tank and got caught on the net last night. I think he was biting the net that is what it looked like. I would hate to have glue seal a fish's mouth.

She is still gaping her mouth open but is still eating well...guess it's just a waiting game at this point. I can't teach her to stop kissing the hammer heh
