I just put two clownfish In the tank along with a RBTA the clowns have decided that they would rather host the Orange wall hammer. The hammer is not very happy about it is there anything I can do to keep the clowns from killing the hammer? And to maybe host the RBTA instead?

Any chance of removing the Hammer temporarily? FYI-It is not the Clowns that do the hosting. The Anemone is the host. Sometimes the Anemone may not allow the Clowns access so to speak. So the Clowns will seek out other alternatives.

I would remove the clowns, I had the same issue but with clowns hosting a frogspawn. Not matter what I did they remained hosting the frogspawn. Once they are hosted its very difficult to get them out or to host somewhere else. I had to remove the clowns as they were slowly killing the frogspawn. Took them out and the frogspawn started to recover.

I had a pair of Ocellaris clownfish destroy a Duncan coral one time. Those same clowns are now making their home in a Bubble coral and it doesn't seem to mind at all.

I can't remove either of them I did just put the RBTA in yesterday. Can I cover it with something besides egg crate?

You could try cutting a 2 liter soda bottle in half and place the top end over the coral. Then again, do you really want to see this in your tank day after day after day? Something has got to go IMO.

I just figured that if I diverted their attention they may find the RBTA and host it instead.

I had two clowns host in a frogspawn for 7yrs. The frogspawn did great, it just has to get use to them hosting. I would imagine your hammer will do well once it is use to the clowns. So unless your seeing something destructive happening I wouldn't worry to much.

Well it seemed like all I had to do was just wait. Came back home and the clowns were all over the RBTA instead!!! Guess they finally noticed it was in there!!!
