I got a new torch a few months ago because I love the long tentacles and I already had another one (that doesnt open up as much anymore), and I put it in the sandbed in front of my clowns' cave *without knowing it was in front of their cave. ig i just put it there* I also got a nem a few months ago but they wouldnt even go near it, even though it was right on top of their lair in the perfect spot for them, but they never seemed interested. Fast forward about a month and today I noticed that my male clowns has started swimming in it, and laying in it as well! A few hours later I see he invited the female to come check it out, and they love it. The torch is still getting used to being touched so much.
Thats all #reefsquad , just wanted to let you know, if anyone has any tips or anything please continue this thread :)

Watch out for hyperpigmentation on your clowns.
Theyll start to develop black spots where the coral is essentially stinging them.
Happened to mine hosting in a duncan.

They probably tried to get deep in their to lay eggs.
@Dark_Knightt are yours a breeding pair?
Mine are yes. It happened so quick. They never even payed attention to the torch, but when they did- torch hated it. Bummer it was my biggest and favorite torch. Now they claimed the long tip green nem. Nem seems to love it and all is happy now lol.

WHat did you do with the eggs? Because I've thought of trying to raise a clutch if I were able to breed my clowns. What would I do with the eggs if they were layed on the torch? Move the torch to a seperate system and then wait for the eggs to hatch and remove the torch?

Clowns would host a stick of dynamite if you dropped it in
Mine are in mushrooms, elegance, toadstools, leathers, anemones and nepthia

Remember, all I listed and even the torch are the hosts. Clowns persay are the guests

I would love to see a pair of clowns in a large colony of mushrooms. Ive thought of getting another small tank to keep just shrooms and a clown or two, maybe it would work then lol

#reefsquad does anyone know if clowns can have open mouths when trying to host in a nem? Or in this case a torch? I believe I read somewhere that they may have open mouths for bit because they rub their faces in the coral to gain immunity to the sting. My male clowns has his mouth partly open now, its not causing any issues as I can see, hes still eating like a pig, just wanted to know.

I wish I knew a good clownfish go to on our site. @Peace River is a wealth of breeding knowledge. He may know . @vetteguy53081 for hosting as well. Maybe they can help

Yes, sometimes when they are adjusting to the sting of a new anemone or coral that can cause them to leave their mouths open. The fact that it is eating is a good sign - I would suggest that you continue to observe at this point.

Agree on sting. First to remember is that clownfish do not host, it is the coral/anemone that does the hosting.
Certain corals will host a clownfish and allow the abuse, but it really all depends on the individual coral. This can be true of anemones too. Some just can't handle the abuse. If your clowns are rough with it, it could be an issue. There is no guarantee that the clowns will even take up a coral host.
Fish skulls and jaws are made of a lot of little, delicate bones in a fairly complicated structure, so they have more potential for things to be broken and dislocated than animals with more solid skulls do. There isn't much you can do to help, aside from feeding only foods that he can actually eat. It will heal in some way.
Clownfish aren't immune to stings but they must build up a slime coat that will cause the stinging cells not to affect them. Mouth open is a reaction when stung to the shock of it

OK thats good to know. The torch that seems to be hosting the clowns is doing great, it doesnt seem to mind at all. Plus, the male clown is the only one who is really trying to get into the corals tentacles, the bigger female will sometimes do it but not as often, I think she feels less interested or maybe she feels too big for the coral.

I just started seeing my clown take my torch corals tentacles into its mouth. Maybe 3 or 4 at a time. Then he slides them back out with no damage done. Really weird. I think he’s trying to gain immunity as well. Cool stuff.

That happened with mine too, but now theyre having difficulty breathing, my female was stung on the outside of her gills but very close to them, so I had to move the torch to the other side of the tank so they didnt feel tempted to swim in it again and get stung. Praying they recover... i cant lose them like i lost my mando :( its basically suicide what theyre doing!!
