Hi all. My tank has been up and running for about 2 and a half months now, added first fish 3 weeks ago. 2x ocellaris clows. On day one to three they did not eat, obviously still checking things out. I continuesly fed them 2 different types of pellets, flake food and frozen mysis. After day 3 one of the clows started eating like a monster, only mysis btw, while the other one just took a bite here and there. Now hes not eating at all. Ive noticed that he has stringy white poo, refer the images. NO other signs of illness, hes swimming up and down the tank and looks lively. But as soon as i feed he just takes a bite, spits it out and turns and swims away. Is this internal parasites or just not the right diet?? And if parasites should i qt with seachem metroplex, binding it to the food is not a option because he does not eat. Well at least i dont see him eat. And also if qt is the way to go, can i get by with just doing daily waterchanges or do i need seeded material. I am under the impression that meds will kill the cycle. Any help would be appreciated.

Try and QT all the fish in your tank. Treat the QT tank with Metroplex and prazi. If you can soak the food and bind the Metroplex using Focus for the treatment it will help. Fish eat poop so there is a chance they all have it.

Also you could try paraguard and Bendazole treatments. May not be as effective as the other two.

Awsome!! Thank you very much. So it is parasite?? On qt, can i get away with just doing daily 30% water changes to keep amonia down?

It most likely is an internal parasite. You should have an established QT. Problem with doing water changes in a QT tank is the medication is removed rendering it ineffective. You can dose prazi and metro in your tank if you have inverts and corals they should be fine. If you run a skimmer it will go crazy so shut if off for the treatment. Also remove any carbon/UV.

Agreed i should have one set up. That will be my next project. If i redose accordingly to the water replaced will that help? So dosing in the DT should be fine? There is no corals yet only hermits and snails.

Dosing in the DT shouldn't be a problem. I've never had any issues. Just run carbon after the treatment. At a minimum I would do 2-3 rounds of prazi and a 7-10 day treatment of metroplex.

I wouldn’t dose metro in a tank with corals, personally...

Prazipro yes, I’ve done that before without incident.

If you can catch them and QT, you can dose the tank with General Cure (contains both metronidazole and praziquantel) and cross your fingers the other clown starts eating. You won’t be able to completely eradicate the parasites without getting him to eat the medicated food.

As a side note, you can feed the food while the QT tank is being treated... it’s ok to do both. That way the one that IS eating doesn’t get worse and hopefully the other will feel well enough to start picking at it. Garlic or entice might help it be more palatable.

I would just feed general cure and focus (by seachem to bind the meds to the food) for 14 days. I microwave, strain, and drain various frozen foods, add selcon/zoecon and these meds, and feed for 5-7 days at a time. Then make more

Yes one is not eating. Going to go with the qt tank and hope his appetite picks up
Makes sense, again with me not being the best with multitasking.

Using the meds in the water column can sometimes work out.

If not dosing the DT tank and setting up a QT tank make sure you aerate the water and keep an eye on ammonia levels.
Yes im going to put a amonia alert badge and do daily 20 to 30% changes. Also airstone, heater and pvc for shelter. I hope that would suffice

+1 ^^^ this exactly ;)

if you just have 2 clown fish i don't think you will need to do water changes as often as you plan. Ive done TTM numerous times in 5 gallon buckets and never had an ammonia problem.
