Can you keep new clown fish with older clown fish? Compatibility?

I know you can’t really mix species.

Part of my issue is I don’t know if I have a Osc or a Perc.

I only have 1, but I wanted another (maybe a pair); but worried about compatibility....

Thoughts, suggestions and advice please.

Your current clown is likely a female.
You want a smaller clown that has not transitioned into a female yet.
I would avoid Maroons or Clarki. An acclimation box can really help.
What type of clown are you looking at?

And kind of clowns (I’m open). So a new clown should be smaller then current? That’s helps. The one I was looking at was bigger than my current one. But I can look at smaller.

Do Percs and Osc. get along?

Yep they will get along.

A big clown is likely a female. Females are noticeably larger. A lone clown transitions into a female. Two mature females will fight.

You want a young clown, not tiny, but young.

hi sure way to tell is spines in dorsal fin occy will have 11,perc will have 10 :)

Just to reiterate what Tahoe61 said about acclimation boxes. Single clowns can be more aggressive toward new mates than a matched sized pair. IME the longer a clown goes without a mate the more aggressive it can be initially when being matched. A cheap mesh breeder from the pet shop would be fine.

I was able to add a Clarkii with Ocellaris clowns. They originally had problems but I when I added a second anemone on the other side of the tank the Clarkii took right to it and it keeps her separated from the others.
