Hello everyone. I have had this 8-9 inch clown trigger for about a month. This is the first time I have purchased one so large and the initial two weeks went great. Then I noticed him freaking out as if he was being bitten by something and dash fast across the tank and hit the walls hard. He does this till he knocks himself out. He swims as if he were drunk now cause his fins are bad. Afterwards, he has continued hitting the glass in bursts of speed and turned all black hiding constantly except for feeding time where he eats as if nothing is wrong. He has lost all the see through parts of his fins except tail possible from a blue angel also in QT picking on him. Forgive my terminology but the “fin follicle” is there, its just the clear parts of the fin between the follicles are gone.

So far I have used SeaChem Kanaplex and Metroflex, PraziPro, and Copper Safe on him with no improvement. Today, I did a fw dip on him with paraguard and all I noticed afterwards is white slime comming off of his body and a strong “fish” smell. I thought he may be blind, but he definitely isn’t. What else could it be? Included pictures of him healthy and now. Anyone have any idea what I am dealing with?

Thank you!

I’ve heard of fish ramming them self to death I’ve got no experience with Triggers but I know of a few fish that will ram the glass if they’re very stressed and in a tank too small so the tank might not be big enough for his liking + the bullying from the angel

Tank size?

100 gallon q-tank. I have a 2 step/ 2 tank quarantine process, he is in the 2nd stage with 6’ft length of swimming room. He has plenty of hiding spots and his own cave and all. Was very happy and healthy initially...

I don’t known if anyone else mentioned this in your threads but did you check for stray voltage?

I would wrap the tank on three sides. Many times fish will notice their reflections. 8 to 9” clown trigger is second to none. I had 1 1/2” ones stand up to 6” emperor angels. What size display tank is he going in?

Custom double bow, end volume around 350-400, tank 327 gallons

I never would have guessed with the gusto this fish has for food but I think he’s depressed. Brand new equipment so no stray voltage. I don’t think it is aggression towards his own reflection either. He had a totally different personality initially exploring his new home and tank mates. Not overly aggressive just curious. I think he simply misses his home in the ocean. Not buying show sized fish anymore!!

New equipment doesn’t necessarily mean something isn’t wrong with it. My brand new heater was cracked and I didn’t know until It shocked the crap out of me

I see, I don't notice any current when placing my hand in the tank. I don't know much about electricity, how can I test if there is stray voltage?

You would feel it. There’s also some type of meter you stick in the water that can tell you. Unfortunately I don’t know what it’s called.

Alright, thank you. I remember in my first tank back in the day there was a ground cable for my power compact lighting. Maybee there is something like that for the tank.
