Anyone else have issues with a cluttered sump?
I have my skimmer, overflow lines, chaeto reactor, phosban reactor, ato res, return pump, all my lighting when does it stop. hahaha but my tank is on point.

I have tried really hard to keep my sump clean. It's far from perfect, but the little power board I made really helps hide some clutter!

Plus I have another cabinet next door that I keep my 5 gallon ATO container in.

Yes, being creative on what can and cannot go into the sump is a issue most of us experience.

My sump has the same footprint as my display. I don't understand the tiny, crowded sumps either – I'd go nuts! :D

Mine contains a return pump, a mSBS (mcarroll's standard bubble stopper) which also serves as the mounting point for my ATO sensor, two heaters, a skimmer and a single strong circulation pump. Detritus does not accumulate and it's easy to work in. :)

No baffles in the way, so I have plenty of room to work and to accommodate a few extra chunks of live rock I ought to sell/get rid of. :P

What is the mSBS you speak of? I assume it is used instead of baffles. Do you use filter socks? Or just keep the debris suspended for the skimmer?

It's a small set of PVC parts I assembled (after a few less-satisfactory tries) in the aisle at Lowes. :P

Specifically:
  • a sanitary elbow
  • a sanitary cross
  • a sanitary elbow with end-cleanout
...are the main parts.

There are some other pipe and fitting pieces needed to hold it together and to give the drain hoses a nice fit/keep in any bubble spray.

The cleanout directs 100% of the drain flow to the intake of my skimmer.

The flow pump is next to the skimmer.

The return pump sits at the far end of the sump from the skimmer.

The detritus feeds the corals not the skimmer. :)

Not much room inside my sump so I use well built hang on and outside reactors.

Not a work of art but it get's her done. :)

pictures?

None handy...I've posted a few over the years tho...wish there was a good way to find em.

The idea is to increase the water's cross-section thus slowing the velocity thus allowing bubbles to settle out.

(All four of those images are supposed to be side by side.)

Those are the main pieces....the last one would be facing the other way, with the small port facing the skimmer pump.

It sits up on the cross like a pedestal so the "arms" are out of the water.
