So I just received a phone call from shopmedvet. Apparently their soda lime media is on back order for about 3 - 4 weeks. Was wondering what other media is great to use.

Thanks in advance.

I've read mixed reviews on BRS product. How long is your media lasting and what does your ph go up to?
I am using it in an Icecap small CO2 scrubber in my 20g tank. It lasts about 2 weeks. My PH was at 7.8 and sits around 8.1 now. I have not experienced any issues thus far

O okay. yah i got the medium size ice cap scrubber. I was thinking maybe just getting the ice cap media again till this other media comes in.

BTW do you recirculate yours with the protein skimmer. I was also reading people adding a tablespoon of liquid in the bottom of the scrubber.

I also get mine from BRS. The key to making it last is to add a few teaspoons of water to the container every few days. ;)

Imma have to look to see if i could put water in the bottom of the scrubber. Or do you just put water on the media itself?

I dump a couple of teaspoons of water in the container itself. I use a BRS C02 scrubber container. You do no want the media to get wet.

Ok. yah thats what ive read that you dont want to get the media wet. So when i was reading a couple of post, I was curious to see where they put the water.

I put it in the bottom of the container that holds the cartridge. Like I said, I use a BRS C02 reactor. I added it to the inlet of my skimmer.

The ice cap appears to have something that looks like you can put something in the bottom. I would have to verify when i get home.

When you get home let me know.

I currently do not have it hooked up as my new tank upgrade skyrockets the PH, but, I can get it out and break it down to show you if needed. :)

Thanks for the info. What did you happen to get, if you don't mind me asking.

Definitely struggling to get pH higher.

How do you mean? On my 120 gal tank I had a hard time, so I added a C02 scrubber to the air inlet of my scrubber, and had no issue keeping my PH between 8.2-8.3. On my new tank I constantly have the PH level at 8.3-8-5 without the scrubber.

I would first look at the C02 levels in your house. Have you tried to open a few windows to allow air exchange? Also, is it possible to run a line from a scrubber to the outside of your dwelling?

Since I ran out of media my pH tends to drop to 7.8 at night then, 7.9 during the day.

While I had the media I was 7.9 during the night then, 8.0 (once in a blue moon id get 8.1) during the day.

Since it's summer her in Vegas I've been having to close the windows and I don't have anywhere to hide a hose to get outside air. Unless I drill a hole on the house. LOL. Winter time I'd leave the windows open.

Some old heads would say that soda lime is soda lime… so it shouldn’t matter. I can’t say either way, but I will say you won’t catch me with store brand mac n cheese. The blue box (or velveeta) is king!! Hahaha
