Every reef is different, and each is in a different environment. My reef tank is in wall, the tank sits in my garage with the frag tanks. There is a hot water heater and a furnace in there, so the rooms CO2 is a bit elevated.
To keep PH stable where I want it, I have run a fresh air line to a reactor to moisten the air, then to a C02 scrubber before hitting the skimmer. I also use a kalk stirrer that doses about 2 gallons a day of kalk. This enables me to to keep my PH stable in a range of 8-8.3.
YMMV
