I hooked up a co2 scrubber that I had on my previous tank to the new tank. I didn't want to do this. But I knew the first day or two this month there would be absolutely no breeze or anything. my ph dropped to 7.8 yesterday by 5 pm by the time I got home it was at 7.8 ppm. although not bad but I knew it would drop even more. threw in a airstone and turned on the pump. left to eat dinner then went to ace hardware and bought the right airline. it rose to 7.94 by 10 pm. I thought I had all the air holes covered with tape but clearly I didn't I forgot about the hole in the top of the skimmer lid. I am recirculating the air from the skimmer to the venturi of the skimmer(lifereef). I haven't used the co2 scrubber since January. I put in the co2 media does the media go bad. I had the bag sealed up and clipped with several binder clips. the bag has been sitting around since January . where it started climbing drastically is when I added the co2 scrubber. then at 5:30 is where it hit 7.94 and has only rose to 7.97. wondering if my co2 media could be bad. or if not covering the hole in my skimmer lid spent the whole media in such a short time. the basement is full of co2 between 1200 and 1300. should I try new media. wondering if my media could be bad since it's been sealed by folding over the top of the bag and sealed with binder clips. so air still might of gotten in to the bag.

I don’t believe sealed CO2 media will go bad. More likely it was scrubbing the CO2 in the room IMO

Easy test - get some fresh media and try some of it without a perfect seal and see what it does

I still have some media from the batch. I'll empty the scrubber and see what happens. I did cover the hole in the lid so now it shouldn't be using any air from the room. Its probably spent. I'll give it a try and see if I get the same results.

Here are some pics. I did change media. Discovered the reactor wasn't screwed in all the way like I thought and the cup wasn't on very well. I examined the oring on the cup neck although still good. Looks a little thin like my girl friends cooking. Gonna go out and get a thicker oring tomorrow. Usually I could still honour to menards tonight but everything closed at 6 this evening. To many protests here still.
