Co2?

I'm planning on doing my first saltwater tank soon and I'm doing research on RO/DI units. My question is I have well water that runs through a water softner out of the tap my pH is 7.0 and after it sets for 48 hour without an air stone or anything my pH rises to around 8.4 now does this show that I have high levels of co2 in my water?

It could be that way. Test to aerate the sample directly - if it rise upp 8.4 in a half hour ore one hour - its 99 % sure CO2

Thanks for the link it didn't really tell me how though other then getting a test kit from one of two companies. I think I understand what Lasse was saying I could take a small sample I use a liquid test kit so a test tube full pour it in a glass with a airstone and let.it set for an hour or so then test. This sound right?

Yes - I was only thinking of how be rather sure that it is CO2 causing the trubbels (I´m rather sure already - but that´s me

) Just pour up half a gallon in a bucket - test - aerate for half an hour - test.

Randys link show a good construction in order to solve the problem inline

No kit needed. Use method two, to measure pH and alkalinity.
