First off, looks like my initial thread was posted in the wrong part of the forum, so I've modified it and moved the lighting portion here.

Hello all! Been a few years of a hiatus on reefs, but I just recently was inspired to come back to the hobby. I left the hobby about 10 years ago when the nano hobby was limited and mainly DIY. Now I'm back at it with a Cobalt C-Vue 40 on the way! Back when I had my Current AquaPod (yes, that far back) lighting for LED's was mainly for aesthetics and not really the prime source of light for coral. Now a days, everything is LED and the results are wonderful! So I have some questions when it comes to lighting, and a few other things, for this new setup that's on its way.

Like a ton of posts I've been lurking on, I've read the debates between all of the LED's on the market, and I've dwindled down to looking at AI and Kessil for this build. The selling point for me being their form factors and their features. Right now I'm up in the air on either a pair of AI Prime HD's or a pair of Kessil 160WE's in Tuna Blue running on the Kessil Spectrum Controller. When it comes to these two competitors I'm not so concerned about price, more the function and the capabilities of the lights. With the new build I'm looking to have a mixed reef, but mainly focusing on LPS, SPS, a Clam or two, and the only soft corals being Ricordea. That being the goal, is there any reason to go with one light over the other when it comes to growing out these species? Again, I'm after performance here.

Thoughts?

It boils down to personal preference between the kessil and the hydra. Me personally would go hydra for the programming.

Thanks for your input!

I actually went the Kessil route as I didn't want all the programming features. Just set up a pair of a160we's with a spectral controller and she's good to go!
