Cobalt levels super high

Hi guys.

after having some unusual slow growth for quite some time despite all the normal testings ok, I got a triton ICP test done.

Currently was dosing strontium and lugol's in the tank.

Got the test results this morning and both strontium and potassium are high, but not overly so (stop dosing likely will take care of it) but the cobalt was way off

Cobalt was 4.227 µg/l compared to normal 0,1 µg/l. all other metals are good apart from slightly elevated Zinc 7.934 µg/l compared to 4 µg/l

how on earth do I get the cobalt down??

If you can’t find a source of cobalt this is likely testing error. You can ask Triton to run it again for cobalt.

Seems doubtful to me. What aminos are you adding?

I recently added bio-enhance apart from that it’s acropower and occasional flatworm stop.. just no idea what source cobalt can come from?? Any ideas? Other metals are normal to low apart from Zn slightly high

I would contact Triton and ask them what they think. They will likely run the other vial for you, and will also be familiar with supplements etc.

Oh wow.. they keep the other vile? I have only tested once in 2016

Vitamin B12 has cobalt in it. I’m not sure if your levels are an issue or not. Numbers alone cannot say since the toxicity varies with the form present.

thanks Randy.. I am B12 deficient so I know.. my one pal even ask me when I last got my injection, maybe it leaked through my skin.. not in the habit of donating blood to my reef.. LOL
after initial panic, I am going back to my usual if it's not broken, don't fix it attitude.. corals are doing good and lets see how it pans out.. few months down the line, do another test

Sounds good. Pop back if you ever discover a source or it it just disappears.

I also have massively high cobalt and all I dose is Triton core 7 all other elements are perfect could it be a faulty mag cleaner did you ever find out the cause
