Cold temperate tank system in Sweden

Amazing!. I've done a cold water macro algae tank with all locally collected livestock. Living in Tasmania we have some very unique ecosystems.

Next on the project list is a temperate seagrass biotope and this thread has inspired me to get going on it. Please keep the posts coming!

Macro algae is a real challange, at least in this part of the world. We don´t have a lot of algae eaters here to take care of the small, thread algae. So it is all about having very heavy water movements to mimic the waves and mechanically remove the bad algae.

How is it with Tasmanian macro, do you suffer from bad algae growth?

I love to see your new project and I´m happy to inspired you! What kind of seagrass do you have there?

Here is the journey documented. I just started it. Enjoy!

I would love to go to Alaska!
In some way it's good they protect the sea life, but its sad for you. Aren't you allowed to collect anything?
Nope nothing. You can go clamming and catch shrimp and crab but you cannot keep them alive they have to be killed for food.

Hi. I did this locally. What chiller are you using? Your tanks are all plumbed together?
A couple guys tried to do a coldwater supply livestock buissness just south of me several years ago but it seems it fell through.

I found i needed a tank 1" thick acrylic and a chiller than didnt heat the room up it was in.

Hello,
My name is Jonas and I live in Sweden at the west coast. New to this forum, but not to the hobby. I'm all in for cold water aquariums and the exciting animals and plants.
I want to share my build of my new tank system with you. Hope you will enjoy it.

A quick overview (in metric units, sorry). I will post more details later:
My two main tanks volume is 540 and 200 liters and will be about 12-15 degrees Celsius. They will have a common sump with skimmer, bioballs, sulphur filter, phosphate filter, ozone and coolers.
The livestock are collected in the nearby sea and will be wrasses, lobsters, hermit crabs, anemones, sea squirts and so on.
It is work in progress, so be patient. I'll try to post as soon as I have something new to share.
First an example of a wrasse:

I will also have four small tanks holding 25 liters each. This is for small animals that would be eaten in the large aquarias.
They are cooled by peltier-elements for the moment.

The tanks are separate, but they share the same chiller:
I have a AquaMedic Titan 1500 connected to one of the small aquariums. Then the water from that aquarium goes through floor heating pipes bent in a spiral from aqarium to aquarium. The chiller is larger than needed, but I got it cheap.

I use regular glass tanks because acrylic tanks are ridiculously expensive in Sweden. But I have double glass (in the summer) and Styrofoam on the sides.

The chiller on this pic broke, so I bought a larger Aqua Medic instead.

It is aluminium pipes lined inside and outside with plastic.

I am just starting. Looking at the 1" acrylic (building my own tank), and am still researching chillers. Nothing is plumbed yet, but the equipment will most likely live in a different room from the tank. I still do not know what size tank I will go for, but definitely staying nano.
