Collecting seawater.

That is amazing. I'm curious, when you first did this did you have the water tested for pollutants? Since getting into the saltwater side I've been envious of people who lived close enough to the ocean to do this but then I see stories about the pollution in the water (fresh and ocean) and I wonder if it's safe. For example I live a few minutes from Lake Ontario but would never use that water for my freshwater tanks. Maybe collecting from the middle of it would be safe but not along the shore.

Thank you for the feedback. I started doing this more than 20 years ago and I have been living 3 different places in Norway. The coastal waters here are clean and the only thing that will differ is the salinity since there are fjords and rivers a lot of places. Its easy to measure and correct this immediately if necessary.
I did a couple of ICP tests some years ago and there was absolutely no pollutants. The reason for testing was not to determine the quality of this seawater but thats another story.

Beautiful aquarium! I just sat down and happened to see your thread. It funny because I just got back from doing the same thing! I live about 5 minutes from the ocean and it only takes me about a half hour from home and back including pumping the water into my storage tank. I usually collect 50 gallons at a time and that lasts me about a month. Nothing better than the natural stuff!
