I am interested to hear about anyone that has collected their own inverts for their tanks. I live in Indiana but at some point might like the opportunity to head down to the keys or Caribbean to do some collecting. If that's even legal. Species of interest would be snails, shrimp, and urchins. Who has stories?

@Ron Reefman loved the thread. Definitely great info. I def want to try a trip down south sometime to do some collecting. Never been to Florida or the keys. Did some snorkeling and diving in Belize. Absolutely loved it... would have stayed forever. Paradise on earth.

We visited Belize about 5 years ago and did one day of snorkeling. We found it to be better than local in the Florida Keys, but not by that much.

We do a lot of shallow water snorkeling near shore. We've found 3 or 4 sites with lots of wildlife and easy access. Don't hesitate to ask questions now or when you get ready to visit. The Keys can really be a fun and relaxing place to visit!

BTW, what 'Columbus' do you live in? I spent 20 years living on the NW side of Columbus, Ohio.

I collect since I live by the coast in Florida. I also know the law, you better as well!

Thats what I've heard. Wouldn't have it any other way. Get my hunting and fishing licenses every year and keep up with all new regs. Also do a fishing trip every year to Minnesota in the boundary waters. Keep up with Minnesota regs to. Would definitely make sure to know whats up down there toooooo...

Best read up of the florida FWS site, not just for what you can take, but WHERE... where is critically important, especially on the gulf side.
