It is likely an organic carbon dosing product, but it doesn't identify exactly what it is.

I personally do not care for secret concoctions, and I'd recommend something you know what it is, either commercial or DIY such as vodka or vinegar. :)

Thanks Randy il give it go as iv ordered it have heard some postive reviews didnt cost loads either is from holland i think isnt much information on it.

Im currently talking to red sea about why my nopox isnt reducing my nitrate would having no phosphate cause this problem in your opnion?

Honestly, I would stick with the nopox and give it time to do its thing.
Im up to 4 weeks i think so il give it up to 6 and see if it hasnt reduced il try the nitrate ex

Are you running a skimmer? If anything try using a little more or dose more frequently. I'd be nervous adding another unknown carbon source. It took a while to figure out dosing NOPOX but after I did it worked really well. On our 75 reef it took 10ml daily to keep things in check.

Just had a email back from red sea and basically they said as my phos is so low there product wont work effectively so to dial down my dosing to 1ml per 100 litres let the phos level get up to 0.04 then dose higher again!

Or you can dose some phosphate. [emoji3]

This the reply from colombo "Nitrate-Ex works by stimulating bacterial growth. As bacteria grow, they will consume nitrate as well as phosphate. So it is true that the bacteria will need phosphate and thus you would assume that they work less when phosphate levels are 0. However, the phosphate level maybe 0, but there will certainly be phosphate available. A phosphate level of 0 will simply mean that all free phosphate is consumed. And as phosphate is available, the bacteria can grow and consume nitrate"
