After spending 200.00 on 3 headed duncan, 3 headed Acan, mushroom and polypt softies, my 72 bow looks like it has hair plugs!

Now realizing it could be as long as 3 years before frags colonize and fill in the tank.

Do most of you just buck up and by the larger colonies so you have more of an instant reef?

Patience is the key in this hobby. It's fun watching your coral grow and thrive. Makes you a better reefer also. There are some people that buy larger colonies of coral all depending on the individual. I can tell you if it's something nice and I can afford it then sure I'll buy it. But most colonies that aren't the common stuff get expensive fast.

Best part in my opinion is watching your tank grow out. Frags tend to acclimate better to a tank then colonies as well. Patience is the most important trait in this hobby.

I feel the same way about the frags looking like hair plugs. Plus all the crabs and snails seem to want to push them around. Basically I try to do colonies for what I can afford. Anything else is a frag.

Never really thought of it like that guys.
Thanks, I'll keep on fragin

I like frags better because you can say that YOU grew that colony.

You would be surprised how some corals grow quickly under the right conditions. I love seeing mine grow yet having a stable tank that can handle feeding and support live stock is far more rewarding. Patience my friend!

FRAGS FOR DAYS. I completely agree with the concept of I was the one that grew that colony. You get so many frags and watch them grow over time which is nice because it forces us to be patient.

I like to know that I have a huge variety of corals that are being grown so when I do upgrade I will have multiple corals (THAT I GREW) that are all different instead of 5-6 big colonies of one coral.

With frags I can visualize pests much easier. In colonies, its hard to really pull things apart to hunt a pest.

I got a reef with big colonies I bought but its funner to see little frags grow promise

As long as your parameters are in check and you keep up with everything your frags will grow to nice colonies within a year
