Hubby picked out an SPS from a local reefer and I haven't the slightest clue what it is or what the mother colony looked like... All other frags look great, but the color on this one looks... Muted? It's got polyps that are out and is growing (it was a fresh cut and now has some growth on the plug)... Is this just how it looks or what could be wrong?

Looks like it just needs time to adjust to your system. Give it a month or 2 and see how it goes.

If it's growing and has PE, you should be fine. I got a frag in January of a really nice milli that was pretty mediocre looking up until about a month ago. These things take time, some more than others.

Thank you. This is my first SPS venture and I'm worried I will mess it up! A Birds of Paradise seems lighter too so I was worried my lighting might be wronh

I would not recommend to a friend getting a acro for first SPS. It can take quite a while to color up like others mentioned. I hope your at least testing alk levels, if not it is time to start if you want success in SPS.

I tested yesterday. SG-1.025 pH-8.1 Ammonia-0 Nitrite-0 Nitrate-5 Phosphate-0.25 dKH-9 Calc-410
Today is water change day. (10-15 gallons weekly)
75gal with 20 gal sump. ReefBreeder Photon 48's maxing out at 40% blue 40% white for 1.5 hours before going back down.
