What color temp MH do you use for SPS *COLOR*, not growth. I use 10K with VHO actinic supplement because I don't like the visual effect that 20K gives. It doesn't seem very bright but I might change my mind if it would make the corals color up better.

Do any of you notice that a different bulb works better on the yellow/green vs blue/purple vs pink/red?

Thanx

double end i use pheonix 14k, that being said i am in the process of switching to single end radium 20k with lumenarc minis, i have a friend that bought some out from under me when i told him where i was getting them so i have to order mine, but when he got them on his tank they are awesome.

I've been using Phoenix 14K 250W DE's with VHO's for a few years now and like the coloration. I've never tried 20K's, but the jump from 10K AB's to 14K Phoenix's is one I think twice about...

By the way, I'm using single end. Does it make a real difference whether they're single or double?

I used to have 2x250W 14k Phoenix DE (switched to T5). I've seen a few other MH color temp but IMO I think the 14k gives much better color than them all.

I mistyped, Harry. I meant to type that it was a choice I wouldn't think twice about... I had revised what I wrote several times and proofreading really gets lax when I do that;).

nothing brings out insane blues quite like reeflux 10k's.

and its a nice white ligh so its nice to see the real colors of the corals. Thats just my opinion of course. All othe other colors look good too, but the blues it makes the corals show after using them a while are really something and signifigantly better at this than any of the other bubls I have used and ive used quite a few

not knocking anyones bulbs, but i have a friend that did one reeflux 12k and one pheonix 14k the reeflux did not have as much par as the pheonix and did not have as nice color either. cant say they dont color blue as much because it has not been long enough, maybe they do but his tank did not look as good on the side with the reeflux bulb. for what its worth.

we arent talking about reeflux 12k's. :)

I use reeflux 12k's at the momont over my polyp tank. wouldnt use them over a sps tank unless I jumped up to 400 watts and probably not even then, but at least then the par would be more acceptable

if you want real colors pick 6500K bulbs since thats the real kelvin rating of the sun. Though you will be hard pressed to find a 6500k bulb that has as much par as the sun.

I just switched from 250 watt DE bulbs to 250 SE bulbs in luminarc reflectors.

250 watt DE
I've tried AB 10k, AB20k, Geiseman 14k and 20k and would stick with Pheonix 14k bulbs over any of the previously mentioned.

I'm currently running Radium 250watt SE and while it is a tad bluer I'll say every non hobbiest that has been to my house in the last week has commented on my tank looking alot better than before.

Yea thats me he is talking about..... :hammer:

Sorry bud i thought you were just scared to pull the trigger on the purchase so I thought I was helping you out.:D:biggrin:

Stop :marv over my tank!

14K Hamilton HQIs here. I only have around 35 pendants too, LOL. While corals may grow faster under certain PAR based on the output of the bulb, I always thought the bluer shade was nice.
