I've seen the colour as both blue or green, or a mix. Is it light levels that determine the overall colour? If so, where can I place mine to get both the blue and green?

ORA Hawkins can be a very sensitive coral, sensitive to both light and water quality. I've had a colony that grows exceptionally well and then for reasons I can't fathom will start to go down hill on me. Currently, I have 2 mini colonies in my 200. About a week ago one of the mini colonies decided to STN on me while the other is doing just fine. They're receiving similar lighting conditions, both being at about the same distance from the surface, and they obviously are receiving the same water conditions. I had to frag the STNing colony up, hoping to save it. Once Hawkins starts to go, it's almost always a lost cause, IMO. However, all of the frags are doing just fine, surprisingly.

Thanks Darryl. Water quality aside, thats the sort of info I was after. I have plenty of PAR in my tank, so I will plant it somewhere low eventually. At the moment it is on the bottom of the tank. The small frag I have has a green sheen to it with purple/light blue tips. I hope it does well. Thanks for the other responses too.

This is an older image, from 2009. I used to keep the hawkins LOW under a 6 bulb T5 fixture that was driven by IceCap ballasts, so if you can keep it low, that would be the place for it.

I've had the best luck keeping it low as well. Mine keeps the green color and any new growth tips are bluish in color - just like Poseidon's pic. It is a picky SPS. I've had very good luck with mine personally. It's a great piece that grows well under optimum conditions.

I moved mine up under the 400 watt MH after it didnt do anything for a few months in a different spot and its color was blahh. Once I moved it up, it started taking off and it is a nice bright turquoise, Ive always heard med-high light and high flow

I'd like to have the coral looking like Darryls: turquise/blue/green etc... I have seen posts say the Hawkins can look more blue or green depending on placement within the tank. I guess I wanted to know where to place in in its final position in one go, rather than moving it around the rockwork trying to get the colour right.

Heres mine under 14k 250 w phoenix. Towards the top of my tank. I get both blue and green. With white tips. Its been growing pretty well for me.
