I've seen this red algae popping up over my rock work lately. Thus morning, a really cool variety showed up around my montipora that is bright orange. (I'm guessing it won't stay this colour....)

Strangely, this stuff seems to have feeder's unless my eyes are playing tricks! (Vermatid snail webs maybe?)

Any ideas what this stuff is? Seems too squidgy to be coralline.

Cheers!

Red one could be Botryocladia sp. or a lot of other things. Red macros are hard to tell apart when they're small

Thanks. They look identical in formation, so is there a chance the orange one isn't a sponge?

First and thrid pictures don' look like sponges. I know it sounds silly but in the 2nd pic they look like sponges. Any way you could get a clearer photo; it'd really help. I can't think of any orange fluorescent macros of the top of my head but I do know that some species like Fauchea can glow like corals except neon blue

I think I'm stuck with these photos for now. (Cappy camera phone) I'll keep an eye on it and see if it changes to red like the algae around it.

Hopefully it stays orange. If it does, I'll try and get some better shots as it grows.
