Acquired this yesterday and noticed the growth or damage right of center...Some sort of infection?

Any ideas as to what this could be and any action needed?

It simply means this is a soft coral and not an SPS.

Those who know soft corals better have a greater chance of seeing it here.

I would not worry about it. They are just about impossible to kill. From time to time pieces will break off and form babies in your tank. What you see is probably just some shipping damage.

Shipping was the car ride from LFS to my house 20 minutes away... Under Kessil A150 ocean Blue. But this was on the coral when I got it. From bag to observed this...

Not a white growth. If you zoom in you can see it a little better.

Piece jutting out from right finger like projection of the coral. It looks like a pimple with something coming out I guess??? Bad description sorry lol

Uh-Oh!

So surfing the net is bad for newbies!
But what if it's this guy?!?
Pimple maker?!?

Also forgot to mention, not fully attached to rock. Like 2/3 on and 1/3 off...

I would not worry about that in the least. If you see a more significant issue begin to arise, take a sharp pair of scissors and just chop it off. This is one of the hardiest corals out there.

Until you see a Nudibranch do not worry. You can intervene in a timely manner with the types of Nudibranchs that eat soft corals.

I know I posted do not worry twice but I would not give either issue a second thought. Soft corals just close up like that, could be a lot of reasons and non of them bad. If you had sps and the nudibranch issues than that would be cause for alarm.

Always check water chemistry when trouble shooting a coral issue.

well now my clown has decided to host in the poor thing. All polyps are extending however the branches are not reaching out as far as they were before. It is alive though.
