Combining multiple frags from a colony

Novice question. If I bought multiple frags from someone and mounted them relatively close with hopes of them turning into the same colony is that a thing?
This would only work if there the exact same coral or very similar. This doesn't apply to all corals like scolys/meat coral. I on multiple occasions have had space invader pectinia grow into each other and become one colony also the same for jelly bean chalices and montiporas. If its the same coral than yes this works just not always.

They (sps) absolutely will form a colony and they will merge together. Anybody tells you different is flat out wrong. And it does speed the process up for growing a colony.
I have done this with my purple Stylo.

Yes, they will merge. No I would not buy these.

There's something distinctly abnormal about the tissue on these frags, either tulip polyp syndrome or a calicoblastic epithelioma. Note the knobby appearance of the coenosarc (coral skin). That is not normal. TSA is a high end vendor so I'm kind of surprised they would market these. The other frags look fine, btw. These are common corals that can be acquired from many vendors. I would not chance it.

Really? I figured top shelf was super reputable.

Look closely at those photos. The coenosarc (coral skin) should be smooth and uniform, not bumpy. That is not normal.

I called the guys at top shelf and they said it looks like a couple normal frags. Maybe I can get them to chime in on this thread.
