Are you able to combine both of these methods? I have been doing tank transfer method since I received the fish on 9-26-18. I will be gone for four days on Friday the 5th and will perform one more transfer that day, but will not be able to perform the transfer again for four days (to late for the TTM as its longer then 72hrs maximum). However, I have slowly increased the concentration of copper up to the 0.5mg/L. So the simple question is do I still need to dose the full 14 days of Cu or can I count the 9 days that I will have did TTM and just dose the copper for the final 5 days?

You won't have done the proper procedure for either method IMO. Can you do an extra transfer? Like in two days, then 3 days later do the last one?

I dont think sticking with one method necessarily matters. I think the object is to remove the ich from the system every 72 hours to keep it from reinfecting the fish before it gets to that stage but if not possible the copper is completely capable of killing the ich if unable to finish out the final few days of the TTM. As long as there is something being done to remove the ich for the 14 days it should be fine. We will wait for Humblefish to chime in here but when i messaged him it said he would be gone this week and hence why I posted it here. I would think this would also be helpful for people to know going the opposite direction. If during Cupramine treatment a fish stops eating you may have to abandon the method but you could most likely switch to TTM for the final days if you can get the fish to eat again. I also do not believe the fish I am treating to have ich but am treating it prophylactically as it is a new addition to the tank.

Since they are now in Cupramine, I would abandon TTM and just keep them at 0.5 mg/L for 14 days. Transfer to a non-medicated holding tank for additional observation, and any ich/velvet (tomonts) should be left behind in the original treatment tank.

Is the entire 14 days of cupramine needed is the question though because they have already went through 9 days of TTM? This Would have removed the ich that was able to effect the fish for these first 9 days so it would seem that you would only need the cupramine for the final 5 days to finish out the ich lifecycle of whatever could still be living on the fish. Am I wrong in thinking this? Of course ideal would be to just follow the rules of one method and stick with it but logically thinking it would make since that as long as you were performing one method throughout the 14 days and both methods combat the same stage of ich that this would be fine? To note there was no lapse in time between either method. I had performed TTM while upping the copper to get it to 0.5mg/ml while performing TTM.

I guess from my way of thinking you should complete 14 days worth of therapeutic copper more so for velvet than ich. TTM doesn't treat velvet and sometimes can even delay symptoms of velvet from showing up. I understand your objective when starting TTM probably wasn't to use it in order to eradicate velvet, but since the fish are now in copper (which treats both ich & velvet) why not finish the job for both pathogens?

I cant see a reason to finish ttm and use copper. Just finish copper treatment.

It may or may not be possible to mix methods but I cant see why you would go through the hassels you have to qt and treat only to take a chance and experiment.

Just finish the copper treatment

Ahh ok. So from what you would think this would be sufficient to eliminate the possibility of ich though? In respect to velvet I treat with Ruby Reef Rally. Also treat with prazi once followed by another dose 7 days later.

14 days worth of therapeutic copper (very important) will eliminate both ich & velvet provided you transfer the fish to another QT. Nothing can be reused from QT#1 to setup QT#2, and both tanks should be at least 10 feet away from one another.

Ruby Reef Rally WILL NOT eliminate velvet. It doesn't contain enough formalin to even have a chance. At best it will provide temporary relief for velvet.
