Hey folks,
Been a member for a bit but just coming back to it. Several years ago I had the equipment to set up my 72 galling bowfront and then life happened. Well, i'm finally back at it. My son and I are in the process of setting up our first reef tank together, he is 8. He saw some black clowns and started to research them and we decided to set up a tank. The process is going slow in order to provide time to research solid equipment that can be purchased on a reasonable budget and of course allowing him to learn about the hobby as we go. So here's what I've got so far.
We were able to get a great deal on a Nuvo 40
Included with this was the upgraded mighty jet 538 gph pump
ghost skimmer
filter floss holder and media basket.
I'm receiving our Hydra TwentySix HD tomorrow as well as Duetto ATO, which i'm very excited about.
Next step will be purchasing the power head. This is where i have my initial, question. an MP10 is our of the price range currently. I have been looking at the Jabeo SW4 or the SW8. What would be the best purchase between these two to provide sufficient flow. Our main goal is to have a few sps.
The last question, well at least for now, whats recommended to run for chemical filtration in the back area? I have been searching past and current builds, youtube videos and any information I cant take in. When I get onto something I tend to get obsessed and at times that leads to being confused as to the amount of information that I take in. Currently I have the media basket in the first column, skimmer in the second, thermometer in fourth and filter floss in the last area.
We are looking to get water into this and get it going at the end of the month after we return from vacation. Will be using 40lb dry rock with some live rock from a friends tank to help seed and some live sand. In regards to the cycle we've got all the time in the world, will not be rushing anything, that's for sure!
