Hi all, im writing a little article on flatworms found in reef tanks, but im drawing a bit of a blank! Specificlaly theres a few faltworms under the acoel name, does anyone know some of the specific species under that name? So far I have
Rust Brown Flatworm
Acropora Eating Flatworm
Red planaria flatworm
Euphillia eating flatworms
Ghost Flatworm
Waminoa sp
Acoel flatworms are flatworms from the taxonomic order Acoela - we see a bunch of different species of Acoel flatworms in the hobby (including most of those in your list - the exceptions are the Acropora Eating Flatworms and Euphyllia Eating Flatworms).
The Rust Brown and Red Planaria Flatworms are the same species -
Convolutriloba retrogemma (though we may see other species from the genus in the hobby and identify them as such as well).
Acropora-eating Flatworms are
Prosthiostomum acroporae (it's also known by the unaccepted name of
Amakusaplana acroporae) - they're a kind of polyclad flatworm (see below).
To my knowledge, Euphyllia-eating Flatworms are a currently unidentified species of polyclad (taxonomic order Polycladida) flatworm - there's not really a good way to address these scientifically at this point, so most just refer to them as EEFW at the moment.
Ghost flatworms are an unidentified species of flatworm from the genus Amphiscolops, so an
Amphiscolops sp.
Waminoa is the genus - we see multiple species in the hobby, so
Waminoa spp.
Amphiscolops, Convolutriloba, and Waminoa are all genera from the Convolutidae family.
