Hello,

I need some advice I currently have a new grow out system set up it has been running for about a month and has been cycled for about two weeks. The total water volume is about 190 gallons. The system consists of a building an obession 30 gallon frag tank & 90 gallon 6ft frag tank all plumbed into a 60 gallon icecap 36xl sump. As of now I only have a radion gen 2 over the 30 gallon frag tank with some corals in it.

I have been dosing about 300ml of Ca & Mag. I have only been dosing 50ml alk and the all seems to be stable . Can someone please help me understand why my alk isn't dropping and if I should continue to dose alk in the small amount until I see my alk drop. I'm little confused.

Right now my current reading are
Ca 403
Mag 1250
Alk 9.8
Phos0.00

Hi,

I dosed the next day 300ML CA & 300 ML MAG
just 50ML ALK

My current readings now are
CA 413
MAG WENT DOWN ! 1210
ALK 9.6
Maybe someone could try and help me can my dosing inline with what you see from my dosing and my numbers now. Please help!

The magnesium change is just test error. It can’t go down on its own. I wouldn’t dose any more cal/alk/mag until alk declines.

I would feed some fish foods to make sure nutrients are not too low.

When I first started and had the system running I added corals my cal dropped to 380 my mag was really low and my alk at 8 not sure if this helps . I'm not really to good explaining this part of it. Maybe I should just stop dosing tonight and see what my numbers are and that would tell me what they are consuming ? Thank you for your help!

Hi all,

So an update after I stopped dosing for one night. Let me know what you think and give me some insight.
My numbers before I stopped dosing was

Alk- 9.9 was dosing 50ml
CA- 401 was dosing 250 ml
Mag-1240 was dosing 250 ml

After not dosing for one day my numbers were the following the next day

Alk- 9.9 stayed the same
Ca -418 went up how is that possible ?
Mag - 1260 also went up?

Please let me know what I should do with seeing these numbers now . Should I wait to dose again ?

That is fine. The cal and mag are test error. You have no alk consumption. Don't dose today. Test tomorrow or in 2 days. See if it drops

Yes, watch for alkalinity to decline. Don't dose until it drops. If it is not dropping, the others are not dropping.

I have a question. Are you dosing Aqua forest component 1+2+3+ or just normal Alk, Ca and Mg. The system is new and if you are really dosing that amount of each component then its weird. If you are dosing components then adjust all 3 parameters using individual Ca, Mg and Kh buffer to the point where you want them and then start dosing each component in equal amount.

Yea I'm dosing the comp 1, 2, 3 . I'll just get the regular ca, all. , & mag
First, observe the system for few more days like others suggested. Look out for Alk drop. Once the system stabilize then bring up all the parameters by dosing individual Alk, Ca and Mg to a level where you want them. After this start dosing equal amount of components 1+2+3+. By the way how many and what type of corals do you have in this month old system because the consumption rate is very unusual for a month old system.
