I came up with a parts list (BRS site) to build a compact 3-stage RO system using 1/4" quick connect cartridge filters, rather than 10" canister filters.

The issue is the quality of the cartridge filters since there are many more options for canister filters.

I'm looking for a 1 micron or less sediment filter and a 0.5 micron carbon block filter to extend the life of the membrane (Dow Filmtec 75 GPD).

Cartridge filters come in 5 micron (nominal? absolute?) for the sediment filter and 1 micron for the carbon (some are granulated) filter.

Is that the best I can do with 1/4" QC cartridge filters? My tap water TDS is 285 (uS @ 82F).

FWIW, the BRS value plus setups are a great deal if they’re in your budget. They include a built in TDS meter, pressure gauge, and a flush valve, all mounted in a bracket that can be mounted or can sit on a counter. I just got one with the water saver too, which has a second membrane to recycle the waste water. It makes water twice as fast and there’s much less waste. Also, a booster pump (along with the flush valve), prolongs the life of your membranes too.

This may not be the setup you want but wanted to pass along my experience!
