I’ve used the Clarisea SK15 for a couple of years now, this was the first version and doesn’t have all the bells and whistles of the new one. But is fully automatic and alarms if it jams. I personally use the medium fine fleeces as this gives me the water clarity I want and they last about 8 weeks. I wouldn’t hesitate to buy another one. A couple of points worth mentioning, if you buy one make sure you fit it in a place where it’s easy to maintain and switch the rolls out, and if you stir your sand bed like I do periodically you will use a lot of fleece, which is one reason I don’t use the very fine fleece.

I still have not purchased a roller for my 300 gallon or my reefer 350. I do not see enough reason to do so at this point— swapping floss for cents a week seems superior to the initial cost+ replacement roll cost every month or two.
I think the pricing of the best unit, the Clarisea, is insane giving the physical components. That’s the reefing markup for ya! The overall concept is have a float switch activate a small motor when water level climbs. That should not cost $400 IMO.

I have the clarisea sk3000 and love it. I buy coolant filter rolls off of eBay , 50 yds 20 micron for about .08/foot. I paid $12.20 for 150ft roll.

Do you have a link at all? And are they the perfect width as I’ve been looking for something to fit as the original rolls are so expensive

I tell him to split into four 4” x 50 yd rolls on 3” cores. If you have the 6” then you can look for a longer roll and then have him split that one.

ShadowR55, will the 100 yard rolls of coolant filter fit in your Clarisea sk3000, or the 50 yard rolls with 3" cores are the max? I have not purchased the Clarisea unit but I am seriously considering it. If the 50 yard rolls and 3" cores are max would the unit tolerate smaller cores to allow for more yardage? Any insight would be helpful!

The 3” core is required because of the foam inserts that it goes on. The 50 yard roll is the max that will fit on the standard setup, but I’m sure if you wanted to fit longer rolls then you could modify where the rolls sit and move them up and out. But honestly, 50yards is the perfect length. I would not go longer because the waste in the roll is sitting there decaying and it would smell really bad.

Im seeing alot of talk about socks vs rollers and costs etc
Im pretty sure the point of these is to remove solids before it breaks down into nitrates/phos
And watching a investigation on BRS you have to remove socks every 2-3 days
So if you look at costs I think you have to factor in that you might not need to run other things as often..skimmers/reactors(media) etc
If im wrong please let me know

Have the sk-5000 on my 135. Like many others I am constantly looking for the "next best thing". All you have to do is look in my garage and check the "old reef equipment" section for proof of that. I got rid of my socks quite a while ago as part of the battle against high PO4. Found that even with "bleach washing" and changing out my socks weekly, getting rid of them had an immediate positive effect. The drawback, of course is dirtier water and detritus in the sump. Finally settled on the Clarisea as it seemed to get the most positive reviews. Have to say that it ranks as one of my top 3 equipment purchases along side my Orpheks and Lifereef skimmer. Easy to assemble, install and maintain. Has solved my "going sockless" issues and water seems to have almost a polish to it. Also, so far, seems to be helping control my PO4 issue. Don't think I will need space for it in my garage any time soon.
