Compatibility question: Yellow watchman goby with diamond goby?

I have a 45 gallon tank. I want to get a YWG to pair with a pistol shrimp. I would also like to get a diamond or some type of sand sifting goby.

Would doing so be likely to cause problems? Anyone care to share their successes or failures on keeping a watchman/shrimp pair in the same tank as a sand sifting goby?

What’s the footprint of that tank? They would definitely be okay together in a larger tank but your tank might be pushing it.

As long as each can have their own burrow they will be fine together.

Don’t know if you’re still looking for input on this but I can tell you they can coexist together. My watchman lost his shrimp buddy when I moved from a 125 to a 180. When I introduced the diamond goby they paired up and shared the same burrow. Pretty comical to watch the diamond do all the burrow maintenance while the watchman would just lay there and do what watchman do.....watch. Never saw any aggression from either. I may have been lucky.

How did you lose the shrimp? I've heard the diamond watchmen will eat the shrimp. Is that what happened?

Lost the shrimp before I got the diamond. When I transferred all my livestock from the 125 I had to keep them in temporary holding tanks while I set up and cycled the 180. The shrimp apparently was investigating a filter intake tube that lost it screen and was sucked into the impeller! Shrimp was several inches long, to this day I think he was responsible for several missing fish including a Coral Beauty Angel who went missing with out a trace.

The yellow watchman was very aggressive right away when I put the diamond in the tank. After 2 days of chasing the diamond finally made it trough the egg crate I use as a lid. R.I.P little buddy.

What about a 90 gallon with a 75 gallon footprint? Lots of sand and my YWG populates the far left side with his pistol buddy. The YWG is about an inch big lol. There's also a mandarin Dragonette in there.

Interesting result. I just introduced a diamond goby to my tank (625L) that had a paired watchman/pistol. the diamond stole the burrow from the watchman! Let's see what happens next, since it has only been two days. There are some fire gobies in the same burrow. Must be crowded in there.

i know its an old post, but my two gobys get along too. i have the same too. oddly enough the only aggression in my tank is my diamond goby chases the fire fish. its the wierdest thing, i dont know why he doesnt like my firefish lol.

so hope your still around. You did not mention what kind of shrimp. wondering because the pistol shrimp supposedly has very poor sight which is why they get together

I actually have both is a 90 gallon, I purchased them at the same time, and believe it or not, they actually share the same burrow! It’s kind of crazy, but I guess it works for them, cute really.
