calling all AF reefer with large SPS tanks...and Aquaforest

How much is your daily Component 1+, 2+, 3+ dosage...

From what I am reading (50 ml per day per 27 gallon per day each component) seems very dilute compared to ESV. For my 500 gallon plus system, the 5000 ML pack will last 3-4 days. Am I reading this right?

Today I dose 400 ml of ESV bionic each 2 part...

Thanks for your help. The salt sounds great but Component 1+, 2+, 3+ seems price prohibitive. Thoughts...

I've read that it is weaker than other brands. When I was using it in my 80g I was dosing 25ml of component 1+ and 3+ but I was only dosing 5ml of 2+

Thanks Chris for your reply. Two questions - Since the dosing instruction recommends to start out with 50 ml per day per 27 gallon tank, it would have been 150 ml for you but you are dosing 25 ml...would you consider your tank light, moderately or heaving stocked...can you give me on a scale 1 to 10 pls. Also, have you noticed any difference after you have started to dose.

I have quite a few pieces in my tabk but they are mostly frags. On a 1-10 scale I would have to say I'm probably between 5-6. I also stopped using the components because my yellow corals have turned green which I suspect is due to higher iron in the system. I'm going to try a different 2 part with no other elements to see if my colors come back. If they do then I'll hold off on using the components until I have a higher demand.

What is misunderstood here is that you should use amount of component 1,2,3 + not what is recommended but how much your tank need. You should check your parameters with tests and then you adjust the dose. Every tank is different. One will have in 100gal 5 acropora and other will have 50. Obviously need for macro and trace will be different. As about concentration... for example component 2+ with kh , Fluoride, Iodium... is saturated. That is mean that you can't dissolve more. So there is no way that other solution could be more concentrated... ;)

I have been growing SPS dominated tank for last 8 yrs (was a Zoa nut before that) and My question is totally based on knowing that different tank has different consumption. Hence the question about how packed is Chris's tank or that my tank (with lots of mature SPS) consumes 400 ml of ESV(which is much more concentrated) each day.

to me it just seems like what available for retail (5000 ml) is very small pack especially for large systems. Buying multiples of 5000 ml pack is price prohibitive.

I am trying to understand How are others managing the cost of component 1,2,3.

Please share your experience if you have large mature SPS tank on component 1,2,3

Hello,

I do run a mixed reef tank and I dose about 100 ml of the components per day. My tank is a 150 gallon tank. It keeps my parameters stable.

It all depends on your system I have some sps but a ton of lps. 57 gallons and currently I'm only dosing 9ml per day. I was doing 14 and it was increasing my alk

Most people with larger tanks mix their own Component 1+, 2+, 3+ using the KH Buffer, Calcium, Magnesium and Reef Mineral Salt along with Components Strong. This works out a lot cheaper than buying the pre mixed stuff in the 5L containers.

I am mixing my own up for my 90G tank as I am dosing 300ml per day although it is heavily stocked with sps

thanks Brani,

I have read several pages of that thread...can you point me to the page (out of 51) where it provides the info...

Hey jsker :)
You will need AF Calcium, AF Magnesium, AF KH Buffer, AF Reef Mineral Salt, and AF Component Strong(4 small bottles in each pack, each 50ml, which is Component A Strong, B, Strong, C Strong, and K Strong) Here is the breakdown:

Bottle 1:
AF Calcium~ 50 grams per 1 liter
AF Magnesium~ 10 grams per 1 liter
Component A Strong~ 5ml per 1 liter
Component B Strong~ 5ml per 1 liter

Bottle 2:
AF KH Buffer~ 80 grams per 1 liter
Component C Strong~ 5ml per 1 liter

Bottle 3:
AF Reef Mineral Salt~ 25 grams per 1 liter
Component K Strong~ 5ml per 1 liter

Thanks Brani and Perry. This is exactly what I was looking for:

Component A Strong~ 5ml per 1 liter
Component B Strong~ 5ml per 1 liter

Component C Strong~ 5ml per 1 liter

Bottle 3:
AF Reef Mineral Salt~ 25 grams per 1 liter
Component K Strong~ 5ml per 1 liter

I also think Aquaforest should offer bigger pack like ESV. But for now, I will try this out.

No problem! Read up on that thread and AF user guide. A bunch of people are making the switch and are happy with it.
I am!
Happy Reefing!!

Hey Sam,
The dry mixes are all available in 5 liter buckets. It will take you months if not year to go through some :) Also, recently AF increased the trace mineral in box of Component Strong from 50ml to 75ml, as per recipe, now making 15 liters of fluids versus 10 liters like before.
