Hi
Attached is what I’m working to as a guide.
I calculated my dosing of component 1+2+3 as instructed based on the drop in alkalinity which was only 0.1dKH a day. I’ve been dosing in equal amounts (spread over 24 hours) but my Alk still drops. Not sure why. I’ve only got 1 LPS and 4 small SPS and they are getting worse by the day.
All other parameters I believe are ok
Nitrate 10ppm
Phosphate 0.01
Ma 1250
Ca 420
Alk 7.5
K 390

just not sure why they are not flourishing
Thanks.

hi,
Thanks so much for getting back to me.
I’m dosing 15ml of each which was based on using 0.1 dkh at 400 litre tank on the online calculator. It was using 0.1 dkh per day before I added these five new corals.
The LPS hammer at the bottom is getting less and less as the days go on.
The goniopora is loosing its heads and not extending
The 2 monti plates just fading away and the other two SPS the same.
All leathers, GSP, and softies are doing great but always have and that’s why I want to move onto the SPS and LPS

What are you using for filtration/nutrient management? AF recommends zeolites and if used improperly could bad side effects. Icp might be in order.

Hi
I’ve just ordered my ICP but think 4 new SPS & the hammer will be dead by the time I’ve got it sent off to marine lab and they post the results.
I did use Zeo mix at first triple stacked in an AF110 reactor with Carbon & phosphate minus as I wanted nitrates to get to 2-5 but they’ve never gone below 10. Most forums say 10 is fine so I’m not using Zeo mix anymore and run my system exactly as this photo (attached again)
Just don't get what I’ve got wrong.
I have stopped using nitraphos minus as my phosphorous is low now and stays between 0.02-0.04. It’s only my nitrates that don’t match the attached.

I’ve used both full zeovit method and AF. I’ve noticed bad results when either nutrients too low, too much flow through zeolites, low potassium, or too aggressive with carbon. Also if your using marine pure blocks, they can leach aluminum, which has killed a lot of my corals. I’d start with checking the flow through zeolite media. You may even get away without even using zeolites of a GFO. Just carbon dosing and bacteria was good enough for me. Are you feeding your corals? Any changes in lighting?

I’ve already stopped with the Zeomix and only have AF phosphate minus & carbon in reactor. I have probably got too much carbon in my reactor thinking about it. Didn’t realise that would be harmful. I’ll reduce to the correct amount. Not using marine pure blocks. Using only the AF products on the mixed reef suggestion That I attached previously. What do you class as low nutrients?
Im at 0.02ppm and 10 for nitrates.
Feeding corals as the AF example schedule (attached) just less as only a few SPS & LPS corals. Potassium is 390
No change in lighting.

Your parameters are fine if they are correct. I doubt it is the components 1,2,3 though. How old is the tank? No pests? Is your alk stable?

Alk still drops despite dosing the correct quantities of 1+2+3 which I used their online calculator for. AF state the balling effect takes place and levels off (doesn’t say how long that takes but been 8 weeks now). Ca & Mg perfectly consistent. Alk still drops by 0.1dkh a day. Tank is 16 months old. No pests, few bristle worms but people say they can be classed as CUC.
Even my zoas wont flourish. Parameters seem ok but something’s amiss.
I’m hoping AF pick up on this too and help. They commented this morning.

Hopefully Icp will show something. It looks a bit like a lighting issue to me though.

Would that really have such a negative effect or death to the corals? Or would they just not grow too well?
Can’t get the ICP soon enough.

A heavy metal could cause problems and lightning, especially powerful lighting can absolutely burn and kill corals.

I’ve just moved them a bit lower down as if I do nothing they’ll be dead so worth a try.
Thanks for your help.

Hello,
I think you should dose KH only using KH Plus.
I recommend to do ICP test to check values of other water elements.
Your lights looks very white - that could also be reason...

Thanks very much. I’ve dosed Kh plus and it’s stabilised now. Also sent off to marine lab for testing.
lights only on white to take the photo.
thanks again.
