So I got my first anemone on Wednesday. She has been doing well. Tonight though she is shriveled and has her mouth I assume, open. I believe she is just pooping, but I wanted to double check since this is my first 'nem. I did attempt to feed her some brine and mysis mixture on Thursday night because she had settled in so well, but she just seemed confused. I have not spot fed her since as I was trying to give her more time settle in. I also noticed my porcelain crab was nearby, and I am not sure if she tried to chill with the 'nem and stressed it out, just an observation.

There was this little brown mass along with slime near by which makes me think in the direction of poop/throw up.

The Anemone does appear to be expelling waste. Not unusual for an acclimating Anemone to inflate and deflate, and expell waste or to have a wider oral opening. It's a pretty little thing.

I think she was just pooping. When I checked before going to bed she was coming back out and her tentacles were returning to normal. Thanks for the help guys!

What color is she? How big is she? This ole lady can't tell with my old eyes, sorry. Did you find out before you bought her what, if anything, she was fed? I have six nems...I feed them silversides. Sometimes, mysis :0)

She is about 2" and is green/lime with lots of clouding/speckles with purple tips. I am not sure if she was being fed before. She is way too small for silversides yet. I am going to try some squid chunks later this week.
The anemone decided to give me a heart attack by not being in her hole when I checked on the tank today. She decided to move 4" over to the base of the overflow and now my porcelain crab wont leave her XD

She sounds gorgeous! I would suggest that if you do feed her, start off with Mysis. She is small and may not be use to being fed. If you do try to feed squid, make it into small pieces/ tiny. After she gets bigger, then you can feed silversides. Just remember, the size of what's being fed should be small enough to easily fit in her mouth. You don't want anything getting stuck in her mouth :0)

Never feed silversides. Mysis is best for the small guys. Good luck.

Why is this?
I feed my nems silverside and they love it. If they are smaller, I cut the silversides but I've always heard to feed them silversides.....

Lots of reports of dead nems from feeding silversides. I believe they are too boney for the nems to digest and they can end up rotting in their stomachs. You may have had success thus far, but impo the risk is still there.

Common sense goes a long way in this hobby! I've bee around the hobby for years and have never heard or seen lots of reports of dead nems from silversides. You might want to check this out as I feel Karen is one of the nem pioneer's : karensroseanemones.net - Feeding your BTA

Yes, hopefully :0) Unless there is something wrong, it will come out of hiding. Two of mine are on walk-a-bouts and 2 are hiding. Just try to keep a watchful eye :0) Do you have your overflow(s) and powerheads covered? Always cover them with nems in a tank! :0)
Well hopefully she comes out from wherever she decided to go hide.
