Concerned over Neon Prizm Favia.

So I noticed last night the my neon Prizm Favia had some what almost looked like brown discharge coming of part of it. Not the polyp mouth, but a piece of the tissue. It almost looked like it was deflating a bit if you will. I have found a few spiders on a zoa frag recently. Is there any chance the two are related? Only other changes have been switched to LED from MH/VHO's, been slowly turning the LEDs up, but am only at 30 percent right now. So if anything I guess lack of light. Also I just refreshed my GFO/Carbon reactors and put some more GFO in. The reactor is new as of a month ago. Can I dip the Favia in Lugols solution? I've only used it on Zoa's in the past.

Why are your nitrates so high? Is this a new tank?

Wow that is a lot of changes. Phosphates of 10ppm are your sure on that value? I am inclined to think that too little light is not the issue. An image is always very helpful in trouble shooting a problem. Brown discharge could be elimination of waste and or zooxanthellea, perhaps it orginated near the mouth and you just noticed after the discharge floated over?

I have to check the nitrates again, they are usually right around zero, but I had 20 in my phone for some reason - can't be right. The tank is not new, it's been set up for 10+ years. Phosphates, I'm not sure about, that is from an old cheap test kit I had. I've got a sailfret Phosphate kit in my BRS cart for the next order. I'll test chemicals again tonight, and try to get a picture as well. I don't know if the discharge floated over - it did look kind of like tissue.

Yes you can dip your prizm in lugols. mine colors up better in lower light, it gets translucent in higher light.

Here is a picture. It's the front polyp, with the mouth open. If you look to the right of the mouth it's the three ribs, if you will that almost look like they are shedding.

Nitrates were 5ppm. I'm in need of a water change this weekend. Still have to check phosphates.

Yes I do see it and your right it almost looks like some tissue is sloughing off, or algae taking hold. I would consider dipping it and feeding it if you are not. Nice coloration though.

Yeah the picture doesn't do the color justice. I have lugols. What proportion would you use? How long should I dip. Only have dipped zoa's in the past.

Fed and dipped. Hopefully it helps.

You can see he effected area is much lighter. Looks like it was starting on the other side as well.

Not looking good at all. Seems like more ribs are prominent. Should I dip again? Are you only supposed to dip so often.

How long did you leave it in the dip? When I dip I usually leave it in the bucket with power head moving the water for about 5-7 mins. Also make sure you are making the dip with water from your tank not tap or newly made saltwater.

I dipped,in coral RX twice, about a week apart for 10 minutes each time. It was in current saltwater and RX. Looks like the ribs are exposed all around the piece now, but its still taking food. I'm very very cautiously optimistic.
