Conchs; is there something I don’t know??

I’ve lost two conchs recently. I had one for a couple weeks and gone. I added one the other day. Goner.
Tank is full of corals, pods, handful different snails, hermits, a coral banded, a copperband, a damsel, and a hawk.

Is there something about conchs I’m not aware of? One was a fighting one was a tiger.
Any insight greatly appreciated.

Are you sure they are dying? They are pretty sedentary when the lights are on. Mine takes a nap in one of two caves when the lights come on. If I didn't have balls of shell and gravel encrusted conch poo show up every day I would have and did think that he was dead, often. Sometimes, for a week at a time he looks like he hasn't moved.

Also they are sensitive to copper.

Was the shell empty or was it dead inside the shell? If the shell was empty I would say you have a killer hermit in your tank. Also they can just hang out inside their shell for a day or two and not move around if it was still inside the shell. Mine will just sit there for a day or so but from time to time while sitting it will poke an eye out.

Shell was mt. So maybe a merc hermit.
I don’t run copper but did add a copperband that had been treated. I wonder if any trace transferred to the tank and could they be THAT sensitive?

I also find mollusks have a higher mortality rate during or near-after shipping.

Got him from lfs display tank so assumed he was pretty acclimated. I’m not there too often so not sure. I usually monitor any animals for a week or two at the shop before bringing home but not this time or so much with inverts.

MT something ate it. Before or after death still in question. In most reefs bodies especially smaller ones dont last long after death. Had a cerith die on me in my little tank, body was gone by the time I noticed the empty shell and I look at it daily.
