I got the urge to tinker with my skimmer last week. So I cut off the top of the body and replaced it with a cone(acrylic cup from Target, 4$) I maintained the same height and neck size as the old body. With no other changes I almost tripled the amount of skimmate in the collection cup. In addition, the skimmer is easier to adjust. I can now go from too dry to too wet. Before, even with the water line to the top of neck transition, crud collected on top of neck rather than in the cup.
