They are popping up here and there, they are very small. When they retract there is a tube left. I have never had aiptasia. If I do have to kill them luckily the rocks are easy to take out.

I have 2 small patches the size of a nickel. Both rocks can come out easily, so letting them stay in there an waiting for something to eat them I think is a potential hazard. I was thinking of taking the rocks out and hit the spots with a small torch like used for Creme Brule. Think that will work?I had a pretty bad infestation going in my 250g. I had tried aptasia x but they were multiplying faster than I could kill them. Tried a file fish, which would eat them on and off but did not knock them out. I added 10 berghia nudibranchs and they've done wonders. They don't work over night, as a matter of fact I thought for a couple weeks they were not working at all. I'm about 5 weeks after adding them and I have only a few aptasia left.
Im not really sure about all the specific details about them but i encountered the ones that look like clear sunflowers(dandelion lol) and i have the brown tube looking ones now that i thought were aptasia for the longest time and theyre not, theyre basically an aptasia in a tube and ill usually just throw glue on them and wont comeback in the area. Ive glued aptasia and vermidit that somehow workex their way around it lolI opened the pictures on my computer instead of my phone. They actually look more like tube worms to me than aiptasia. Like small feather dusters. I'm pretty sure they aren't aiptasia, but like Sabellafella said they could be hydroids.
@Sabellafella, don't the colonial hydroids tubes usually all originate from a somewhat single point like a dandelion?
This is what they look like after touching them with something... yoy can see the tube left. They looklike aptasia but you said they retract into a tube? And their small? Sorry to be the barer of bad news but i think their the bad hydroids (edit the colonial ones, i myself am acually having a bad time with them stinging my monti caps , usually i just put glue over them but following along hopefully someone can shed some light here)
Yea theyre deffinitly hydroids dont go crazy tho because they grow real slow but when they do they will cover like a matt, its always better safe then sorry so when you get the chance take them out and clip them, or put a dab of glue and your good to goThis is what they look like after touching them with something... yoy can see the tube left.![]()

I'm going to take out both rocks tomorrow, torch them for a few minutes then hit the spots with some coral gel glue. Also they really arent that bad . they often pop up on frags and liverock after a couple months and they will keep splitting/growing or however they reproduce just in that area. Believe it or not the places i cant get my rocks out ill stick a little colony if a acan enchinata i have and it will devour them lol
Thanks! Will do tomorrowYea theyre deffinitly hydroids dont go crazy tho because they grow real slow but when they do they will cover like a matt, its always better safe then sorry so when you get the chance take them out and clip them, or put a dab of glue and your good to go
I have to rebuild my tank too, at first it was just a tiny little Aiptasia, I didn't know what it was and when I found out it was lateI've had hundreds Aiptasia on our 90G mixed that we ended up rebooting the whole tank.
Started from a few adults hidden inside a large liverock we purchased from a local guy. My fault, i didn't act fast enough. Waited 6 months thought they will not reproduced that fast. Proved me wrong.
- Laser zapper, not enough damage.
- Aiptasia X, Aiptasia will just retract and hide inside.
- BOILED most of the liverocks that almost crashed the tank. It did work but tons of eggs were hiding elsewhere.
We ended up rebooting the whole system. Changed the liverocks, acid soaked everything.
- So if you can kill that Aiptasia now, do it. If you can remove the rock, boil or acid soak it and let it sit outside for awhile.
