Confused about master slave relationship

So I just connected my 2 vortech pumps to my feed link. I'm trying to put them on anti sync. So these are my questions. (I factory reset my vortechs)

1. Do the vortech pumps need to be on master slave mode in order for them to "any-sync" to each other? Even if I have them connected to my reef link?

2. If I do need to set it to master slave mode, do I need to do the button combination on the vortech controller itself?

My goal is to have a constant speed on both pumps from 12am (midnight) to 6 in the morning. Then from 6:01am to 11:59pm have tidal swell mode running on anti sync.

You do that all through the Reeflink/ESL. I picked my left side MP40 and set that up. I then set my rear MP40 to Ecoback, and my right MP40 syncs and anti syncs a few times throughout the day.
