Confused making saltwater... Coral Pro

Making saltwater for the first time. Using coral pro. Everywhere I read it says to pour 2.5 cups of salt.

Issue I'm having is where 5 gallons is on this bucket. I'm guessing it's the very first line?

It doesn't matter how much water is in there, as long as you read 1.024-1.026 you're good! Just keep your refractometer calibrated.

Hows it lookin tho.. Just made a second batch started with 4 1/2 cups instead

Looks perfect, as long as the batch comes out to that same salinity every time you're good. Just give it an hour to mix and heat up and then test salinity again, as sometimes it rises a bit.

When I read this refractometer, do i read the left side? Just making sure

Both can be read, they're just diffrent units of measurement. The correct salinity you're aiming for is 1.025 on the left, 35 on the right.

The five gallon mark on those Home Depot buckets is a little lower than you have it filled in the picture.

I like to mark my salt making container with tape on the outside after I've found my levle...makes the next batch much easier....

I use coral pro and for me, ten gallons takes four cups of salt. With a little fine adjustment usually with salt/Rodi and refractometer as mentioned above. Another thing you could do is mark a line on the bucket with a sharpie and fill to the same spot every time.

A good average to start is 1/2 cup per gallon but all that matters as stated previously is 1.024 +\-

So I did it. Made my own salt. Did a 10g water change to my 40g Nuvo. Fish seem happy with the red Sea coral pro, salt looks stable thanks for all the input
