I have a small 3 gallon tank that I'm thinking about turning into a frag tank. Can anyone recommend a small pump that will constantly circulate the water between my main tank and this small one?

TIA!

Probably need some more detail before answering this. How will the tanks be connected? Are you going to rely on this pump for circulation?

I'm thinking of using a pump to provide constant water exchange between the two tanks. No other connections. That way I'm thinking I won't have to worry about water evap etc on the smaller tank.

Ok, that didn't answer either of the questions. Will the frag tank be higher than the main tank, allowing for an overflow back to the main tank, or are you going to connect it to the sump of the main tank? Or, some other method? The pump will get water to the frag tank but that water will need to return somehow, that is what I'm asking. If the water needs to be lifted 4 feet, it will need a different pump to a situation where it will need to be lifted 6".

Oh I see what you are asking. Tanks will sit side by side so it would make the most sense to drain water back into the sump and pull water from the larger display tank.

However, I was hoping some sort of dual pump existed where everything was mechanically driven.

If you're going to drain back to a common sump, I'd recommend just putting a T on the return and having it supply both the main tank and the frag tank. Being only 3G, you're not going to need a lot of flow so you may be able to get way with whatever you're currently running. Alternately, you could run a small 150gph pump to run from the sump to the frag tank, just make sure whatever pump you use can handle the head height.
I'd probably recommend against pumping from the main tank directly to the frag tank as there is a risk that you'll have issues in the event of a pump failure. For example, if your return pump fails, you're going to pump a lot of water out of the main tank into the sump via the frag tank, and the pump will likely run dry. You could be left with a wet floor and a dead pump.
