connection at the Bulkhead

Ok so i have a 1 inch drain bulkhead and 3/4 inch return bulkhead. They are both slip from up above and thread to sump. Question Do i buy a threaded fitting that connects to the bulkhead below that screws onto the inside thread or one that screws on to the outside thread of the bulk head? Seems if done on the outside would prevent leaking. Is there even that type of connector?

Thanks that is what i figured just use teflon tape on threads.

I've used teflon and on occasion they'll still leak. I ended up putting a bead of aquarium silicone on the threads. It seals it and you're still able to unscrew it if you need to.

PVC manufacturers do not recommend teflon tape. I list some better products in the above sticky post.
