I am considering putting a Two Barred Rabbitfish (Siganus virgatus) in my 120 (24â€x48â€x24â€) mixed reef. I recently just thinned out some of my fish population due to aggression and simply wanting fewer fish in the tank.
I currently have:
1 Yellow Eye Kole Tang
1 Melanurus Wrasse
1 Tailspot Blenny
1 Lyrtail Anthias
1 Purple Firefish
2 Percula Clownfish
3 Bar Gobies
I would like to be able to keep a Signal Goby and/or a Spotted Manderin down the road, which is part of the reasoning for getting rid of some of the other fish.
I am aware that underfed Rabbitfish will pick at LPS and that their dorsal fins are venomous, but is there any other reason I would want to avoid one in my system? One thing that I am curious about is why this particular species of Rabbitfish only “requires†a 100 gallon tank? I do like to follow recommended guide lines for appropriate tank size, and I know this is cutting it close.
What are your experiences/advice?
Thanks
