Considering getting my mag to the knife.

It finished the split in a 80%/20% ratio. The current was too strong and the smaller anemone was all twisted.

I have a problem now: I'm going away for 4 days on the 24th, which is the day I was planning to return the anemone to the tank, after 7 days of cypro.

I'm thinking about returning both anemones to the tank tomorrow, so that I can make sure they settle down and leave a webcam when I go away.

That’s gonna be iffy, as this was more of a stress split. Plus they really need a few days to heal alone and medicated.

So, it's better to continue cypro until the day I leave and transfer them back to the tank on that day?

I would not stop treatment. Stopping it early can create antibiotic resistant bacteria and then it’s very difficult to treat again. Any time I’ve stopped early, the anemones rarely survived if their health began to decline again. Maybe find a friend who is willing to medicate the tank once a day while you’re away?

Very cool about the split! That really doesn’t happen very often with them. I hope they both survive.

I will carry on with the treatment then.

During the night the foam pad got lose from the pump, the smaller anemone got lose from the rock and they met.

25% of the anemone was turned into mush and the water was purple.

I changed the water and placed the anemone right next to its clone on top of the rock and within a minute it attached to the rock.

I now have the pump inside a basket.

The smaller anemone is now at the bottom of the bucket.

Yesterday I had to collect lots of frothy foam from the top of the bucket many times and I increased (doubled) the dosage of cypro to 250 mg.

Today morning there was no foam and no deflations.

I am going to move them to a 10 gallon container during the 4 days I will be away, I can't risk puting them in the tank.

Sorry to hear about the smaller split mag. I also lost two mags to powerheads. One in treatment. I found that covering powerheads work to a point, but they still find a way in.

Wouldn’t it better to move them to your main tank as you have almost 200 gallons to back it up instead of ten gallons that could foul in 4 days? I know John said about it becoming anti-bacteria resistant. What are odds of having to treat again in the future, vs tank pollution from the smaller nem dying during time away (and all that ammonia)?

Today before I left I had to make a difficult decision: to sacrifice the smaller mag. It's been 2 days since it was not attaching to anything and although it didn't smell fowl, it was degrading fast and causing the surface of the water to cover with foam.

@chizerbunoi I thought about following your advise but I couldn't risk it. I live in a isolated area and the tank will be on its own for 4 days and that anemone could easily nuke the whole tank.

So I ended up leaving it in the 10 gallon container. I have a webcam on it so I can watch how it's doing. I hope it doesn't split again.

No, my take on this was that the split began 6 months ago, didn't finish splitting and the anemone was left in an unhealthy limbo state.

When I stressed it by taking it out of the tank and getting it through a course of cipro, it finished the split.

The smaller anemone was degrading day by day, causing the water to foul and now I hope that the larger anemone makes it without deflating until I return and put is back in the tank.
