Considering going fowlr

60% blues 40% whites. Went down in whites over the corase of a month now.. 60% to 80% start time then it bumps up to 90% over 2 hours and then 100% over the next 2 then off at 7pm. But it's at 50/15% til they die or I can figure out what I need to do.

The ramping up/down isn't the issue here. My concern is how quickly you moved from a baseline 60% up to your final 100% resting place. And by that I don't mean during each day. I mean from an acclimation standpoint.

It was 10% every week. Always changed after lights shut off so it would do it the following day. So like if it was at 60% at 10 am I change it 70% and then I waited a week to do it again..

So you want up 40% in a four week span? I'm new to led myself so I can't say I have it right but I think that's too fast too soon. I've increased 15% in 5 weeks just as a comparison.

Ok I didn't know.. the kessil is my first led and I love it.. these reef breeders are old. Been around the club.. so par meter and 6 more months..

Steve - one last thought before I hit the hay. Have you considered sending in a tank water sample to Triton to have them check it out? I would highly recommend doing so. It will be worth the money and might turn up some stuff in the water that we're missing.

At one point, the previous owner had an ich out break in that tank, which among other things led him to sell it, he did indeed medicate the fish...a triton test would definitely tell you if something foreign was leeching from somewhere.

Also, have you checked out for stray voltage?

Checked all the magnets on equipment etc to make sure there not exposed?

I've no experience with that particular light, but cutting it back and giving the scolys some shade won't hurt anything. .02

Can't be cooper cause shrimp and cuc are all still alive.. no on stay voltage and no magnets are exposed..

FWIW I've had my current tank running since about 2005. Was initially fowlr, then I got the soft corals and leathers and the like had that going for a long time. About 1 1/2 to 2 years ago I got bit by the sps bug. Can't tell you how many I killed. :( I could keep all kinds of chalices like crazy but all the sps would turn brown and then stn on me. All my parameters were testing as they should be. I had the cheap leds, the ones that are just blue and white and you can't adjust them at all, just turn them off and on... And these were recommended by a professional. Could not keep sps though.
I got a better skimmer, that helped a lot. Sps now were no longer brown and actually started growing to my amazement.
Then I upgraded my lights to the Radions. I have it on the radiant setting which sets all the levels on the different color and ramps up gradually during the day and then ramps back down. I have it set at only 45 %.
Still have an occasional problem. But I have learned as so many have said, "only bad things happen fast in a reef tank".
My current tank is a 75 gallon, 4 ft tank. I have a Redsea reefer 525 sitting in my living room waiting to be set up. I kind of dread setting it up because everything is doing well in the 75 and I'm afraid I'm going to kill everything in the new tank.
I would just let your tank run for awhile. If you have softies or lps, zoas/paly's in there doing ok. Just leave them be. The tank will settle on its own.
When my tank was full of the softies, torches, frogspawn, etc., I tested weekly and only the basics. I only added 2 part and only a couple times a week.
Let the tank mature a little.
Do you have a fts we could see?
I'm just guessing that for whatever reason your tank is just not ready at this time for sps. Just have patience and it should all fall into place for you.
Sorry if I rambled on. ;)

How high of the water are your lights? That's going to have a lot to do with your end %'s
10" off the water surface. But I am just going to ride it at 60/20 till I can unload live stock and then call it a lesson learned.. I feel that everyone gets upset cause I have the desire to keep sps..
